The National Integration Evaluation Mechanism (NIEM) is a six-years long transnational project which aims to prepare key actors in the integration field in 15 EU Member States to better face the current challenges and improve the integration outcomes of beneficiaries of international protection. Conflict situations tend to last longer, and it takes currently on average 17 years, before refugees fleeing civil wars may eventually have a chance to return to their home country. Hence, the long-term integration of newly arrived beneficiaries of international protection is without alternative and presents an immediate challenge for European societies. Read

On 9 April 2019 PROVIDUS organized a training on the inclusion of principles of tolerance and mutual respect inintegration support activities. This training was an opportunity to find out more about theopretical and practical aspects of non-discrimination, presented by Santa Tivaņenkova from the Ombudsman’s Office and Ēriks Treļs from State Police College. Guidelines on Incorporating Tolerance and Mutual Respect in Language Tuition and Social Orientation of Refugees and Migrants were also presented at this event. Read
Centre for Public Policy PROVIDUS has published a handbook on workplace integration. It was created with a goal to combine good practices of employers regarding workplace integration of newcomers and diversity management, as well to provide recommendations for national and Riga City policy makers on how to provide more effective support for newcomers. In addition to that, the handbook includes a compilation of resources for employers and newcomers regarding the integration support that is currently already available. Read
